This policy explains what personal data SokoSwift UK collects, why, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, password (stored securely hashed), account type, and business details if you have a business account.
- Profile details you choose to add: photo or logo, town or city, bio, website and phone number.
- Your ads: titles, descriptions, photos, prices and location.
- Messages you send and receive on SokoSwift UK.
- Reports and contact form messages you send us.
- Technical data: basic logs such as IP address and browser type, used to keep the service secure.
- Visit statistics: which pages are viewed, the site you came from, and your country, browser and device type. These are counted without cookies and don’t identify you.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To run your account and show your ads (performing our contract with you).
- To deliver messages and send you service emails, such as new message alerts and a reminder before your ads expire (contract). You can switch these emails off in Settings.
- To keep the marketplace safe: preventing fraud, reviewing reports and enforcing our rules (our legitimate interests, and legal obligations under the Online Safety Act).
- To answer your questions when you contact us (legitimate interests).
- To understand how the site is used and improve it, from anonymous visit statistics (legitimate interests).
What other people can see
Your ads, display name or business name, profile photo, town and member-since date are public. Your email address is never shown. Your phone number is only shown if you switch that on, and then only to signed-in members.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data. We use trusted providers to run the service:
- Supabase (database, login and photo storage)
- Vercel (website hosting and visit statistics)
- Resend (sending emails)
Where these providers process data outside the UK, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement to protect it. We may share information with the police or regulators where the law requires it, or to prevent fraud.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, ads, messages and saved items. We may keep limited records (such as reports about fraud) for up to 6 years where needed for legal reasons.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or move your data, object to how we use it, or restrict it. You can delete your account yourself from Settings. To use any other right, email us. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
